Discover Real Evil In First Trailer For Amityville: The Awakening

The Amityville franchise has proven scarily good at cheating death - somehow, the series has spawned eleven installments thus far, including direct-to-video entry The Amityville Asylum last year. The Amityville franchise has proven scarily good at cheating death – somehow, the series has spawned eleven installments thus far, including direct-to-video entry The Amityville Asylum last year. Now, Dimension Films is hoping to bring the terror back to the big screen with next January’s Amityville: The Awakening.

Today, thanks to Yahoo, the first trailer for the flick arrived online, promising gross-out visuals and an unbearable sense of dread. It’s an extremely effective first look at the movie that has us stoked to see the finished product.

With Bella Thorne (Disney’s Shake It Up) and Cameron Monaghan (Vampire Academy, The Giver) leading a cast that also includes Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kurtwood Smith, this installment is aimed squarely at the teen demographic.

What has us excited for Amityville: The Awakening, however, is that none other than Franck Khalfoun is sitting in the director’s chair. His Elijah Wood-led redo of Maniac was one of the most unexpectedly great remakes of 2012 (our very own resident horror fiend, Matt Donato, chose it as the best horror movie of the year), and his 2007 thriller P2 ensured that none of us will ever walk leisurely through a parking garage again. We cannot wait to see what he’ll do to rejuvenate the often awful Amityville franchise.

There’s no better way to ring in the new year than by scaring yourself silly, so keep an eye out for Amityville: The Awakening when it hits theaters on January 2nd next year.
