Dwayne Johnson Fights A Lion In First Hercules Trailer

After receiving the first images and poster from Brett Ratner's Hercules yesterday, we now have the very first trailer for the film. Set to play the titular hero is Dwayne Johnson, whose involvement alone is reason enough to check this one out. I mean, come on, The Rock as Hercules? It's like a match made in heaven.

After receiving the first images and poster from Brett Ratner’s Hercules yesterday, we now have the very first trailer for the film. Set to play the titular hero is Dwayne Johnson, whose involvement alone is reason enough to check this one out. I mean, come on, The Rock as Hercules? It’s like a match made in heaven.

Unlike January’s dreadful The Legend of Hercules, Ratner’s film is hoping to be a real crowd-pleaser. In fact, Johnson has stated that the goal is make this “the definitive version of Hercules.” Speaking to USA Today, he said the following:

“The No. 1 goal is to make the definitive version of Hercules. We know we’re going to be under a microscope.” He added, “Green screen and effects can be fantastic. But when you have real men, real sweat and even real blood, it’s very gratifying. You feel the substance.”

From the looks of this trailer, we’re going to get exactly what’s expected from a Dwayne Johnson/Brett Ratner led Hercules film. Completely skipping over the story, the footage here focuses on the legend himself as we see mighty Herc doing battle with all sorts of dangerous looking CGI creatures, including one enormous lion.

It’s rather brief, but from what we’re shown it looks like moviegoers will be in for an exciting ride this Summer. Johnson appears to be perfect for the role and already I have a good feeling that this will certainly be the better of the two Hercules films released this year. Go into this one expecting some big, dumb fun with The Rock at the centre of it all, and you should leave the theatre feeling satisfied.

Co-starring Joseph Fiennes, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Rebecca Ferguson, Aksel Hennie and John Hurt, Hercules will storm into theatres on July 25th, 2014. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
