The Rock is heading to sea for his latest big-screen venture. After starring in Fast & Furious 6 and Hercules, Dwayne Johnson has been tapped to topline Not Without Hope, a survival drama to be adapted from the book of the same name.
Relativity is building the project around Johnson and has set E. Nicholas Mariani to adapt Nick Schuyler’s true survival story. Johnson will portray Schuyler, who was one of four friends who capsized during a deep-sea fishing trip and struggled to survive. All four friends were athletes; Schuyler was joined on the ill-fated voyage by NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and former University of South Florida player Will Bleakley.

On February 28, 2009, Nick Schuyler went on a deep-sea fishing trip with three friends: NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and Will Bleakley, former University of South Florida football player and Nick’s best friend. What was supposed to be a day of fun and relaxation aboard Cooper’s twenty-one-foot vessel turned nightmarish in the Gulf of Mexico, seventy miles west of Tampa, Florida, when a tragic mistake caused their boat to capsize. Mariani doesn’t have many completed projects under his belt, but the scribe wrote Ploesti, Desperate Hours and Paul Revere, three buzzy scripts that are in various stages of development at Alcon, GK Films and Disney, respectively.
