Early Tracking Data Points To Star Wars: The Force Awakens Breaking Box Office Records

As of right now, it doesn't seem like an exaggeration to call Star Wars: The Force Awakens perhaps the most highly anticipated movie of all-time. As of right now, it doesn’t seem like an exaggeration to call Star Wars: The Force Awakens perhaps the most highly anticipated movie of all-time. After Star Wars fans were left disappointed by three prequels, the signs are pointing to J.J. Abrams delivering a return to form for the beloved franchise, and everything we’ve seen from the movie so far looks great.

Tickets have already sold out in many theaters, with screenings taking place literally 24/7 to accommodate demand. It should come as no surprise then to learn that early tracking data indicates that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to end up breaking box office records next month.

The movie is apparently eyeing an opening of around $225 million in North America, a figure which means it will crush the record Jurassic World set earlier this year with a debut of $208 million (which topped The Avengers‘ weekend bow of $207 million). Time will tell whether or not Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to be able to beat that record and how much it will debut with overseas – where it’s also expected to shatter records – but Avatar may want to start worrying.

There are those that don’t believe Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to top that 2009 3D release, but you have to think it stands a chance.
