Emily VanCamp On If Sharon Carter Will Return To The MCU

Will Emily VanCamp get a chance to reprise her role as Sharon Carter in the MCU one day? Here's what the actress said when asked that very question.

One thing that Marvel Studios have excelled at throughout most of their films has been incorporating the rich amount of supporting characters that complement each of their heroes.

To date, we’ve seen folks like Pepper Potts, Happy Hogan and General “Thunderbolt” Ross play important roles in a variety of movies. And with Avengers: Infinity War‘s release looming, we can probably expect to see even more familiar faces resurface. Though odds are that much of the focus will be placed on the titular heroes themselves, and understandably so.

One character in particular that originated in the source material whom is yet to get her due is Sharon Carter (played by Emily VanCamp). First introduced on screen in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, she’s proven to be a keen ally to Steve Rogers and, while a few sparks have flown between them in the time since, she still hasn’t quite achieved the importance of her comic book counterpart.

Now, with Infinity War quickly approaching, fans are beginning to wonder if Carter might pop up for a scene or two. During a panel at the recent Television Critics Association press tour, VanCamp spoke on that very matter and unfortunately, said that she’s still unsure if she’ll be back for more.

Still, her appearing in Infinity War or its currently untitled sequel shouldn’t be ruled out completely, as she had this to add: “Marvel can call at any minute.” That follows on from what the actress said last year, when she essentially told journalists the same thing:

“I have no idea. With Marvel, they can give you a call the day before you shoot. You don’t know what’s going on with their movies because they’re very secretive.”

Like we mentioned above, the relationship shared between Sharon and Steve isn’t quite as storied on film as it was in the comics, but we do hope to see her return in a future MCU movie, especially if Chris Evans is indeed on his way out.

Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theatres on May 4, 2018.
