Scarlett Johansson Means Business In New Still From Ghost In The Shell

Despite claims of white washing and initial fears that it wouldn't stay faithful to the source material, it seems that the general consensus on Rupert Sanders' upcoming live-action adaptation of beloved anime Ghost in the Shell is pretty positive. An explosive first trailer went a long way in getting people on board and while not everyone's sold just yet, we must admit, it certainly looks quite promising.

Despite claims of white washing and initial fears that it wouldn’t stay faithful to the source material, it seems that the general consensus on Rupert Sanders’ upcoming live-action adaptation of beloved anime Ghost in the Shell is pretty positive. An explosive first trailer went a long way in getting people on board and while not everyone’s sold just yet, we must admit, it certainly looks quite promising.

Stylish, sleek and featuring Scarlett Johansson in another role where she gets to do what she does best (kick ass), the adaptation is sure to get people talking next year and now, just to ensure it doesn’t slip off our minds as we find ourselves inundated with all things Rogue One, Empire has debuted a brand new still.

Front and centre here we have Johansson, and while we’re not sure what exactly she’s up to, the actress clearly means business. And if the footage from that first trailer is any indication, you’re not going to want to cross her.

Speaking about the upcoming film, Johansson noted how Ghost in the Shell isn’t just an explosive action movie, it’s also “curious and reflective.”

“I’ve been a person without a body, now I’m a mind in a synthetic body,” she says. “Eventually I’ll go back to playing a body and brain together. This is a ride that’s not just explosive and exciting, but also curious and reflective.”

Adding to that, Sanders assured fans that this won’t be “the shit Hollywood version” of the anime. That’s reassuring to hear, as that’s exactly what many people were worried about. Of course, just because the director says it doesn’t mean it’s the truth, but from everything we’ve seen so far, we feel pretty confident that the adaptation is in safe hands.

Ghost in the Shell will make its way into theatres on March 31st, 2017 and aside from Johansson, it also stars Pilou Asbaek, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche and Michael Pitt.
