Perhaps one of the most intriguing features in development right now is Okja, Bong Joon-Ho’s monster movie that blends elements of science fiction with full-blown horror.

Being aligned for release at some point next year, Joon-ho’s latest creative venture is in active production across the world as the South Korean filmmaker goes about capturing his “bold, global adventure.” He’s assembled an all-star cast to do so, too, as Tilda Swinton, Lily Collins, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Giancarlo Esposito will all have roles, among others.

Like Ho’s previous film, Okja won’t be a straight-laced affair. Part sci-fi and part-drama, the movie is being angled as a creature feature with a difference, as it revolves around a young girl “who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive genetically-manufactured pig named Okja.”

It’s an interesting premise, to be sure, and one that promises a good time when the film premieres on Netflix (who’s also producing it) this coming summer. Before then, however, EW is pulling back the lid on the director’s latest effort with the photos you see up in the gallery above. It’s hard to make out exactly what’s going on, but one of the stills shows off Ahn Seo-hyun’s Mija while the other features Lily Collins’ Red, who also appears on the storyboard.

“Red is part of a group of animal rights activists that figure into the story,” teases the director. “On Wall Street, it’s the heart of capitalism,” he says. “On the surface is a story about an animal, but it’s essentially a story about capitalism.”

Okja will arrive on Netflix in summer 2017, and given that Ho has full creative control, we’re hopeful that we’ll end up with a film just as stimulating and impressive as his last effort, Snowpiercer.
