Paul Bettany’s directorial debut, Shelter, is a grim story with a hopeful message. Set in New York, the drama follows a homeless couple (Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Mackie) and how they came to live on the streets. As the two grow to depend on one another, they learn to let go of the past and build a new life.
After a fairly successful run on the festival circuit, the film is now hitting theatres and we recently sat down with Bettany, Connelly and Mackie to discuss their personal connection to Shelter, how working on the project changed their view on the homeless crisis and going to dark places to shed light on prevalent social issues.
Hear what they had to say in the video above and be sure to catch Shelter as it’s now in theatres.
