Despite being absent from the latest promo image from Justice League, it’s important that we not forget Superman will be heavily involved in the film. In fact, some recent comments cause us to believe his role will be more substantial than a triumphant third act return.
When recently speaking with Total Film, Henry Cavill, the Last Son of Krypton himself, stated that he and Batman won’t see eye to eye on something that’s actually to be expected:
“There’s pretty much an argument between him and Batman as to who is the leader.”
While it’s arguable whether the Justice League has any leader at all, moments such as these are not unheard of when so many people with strong personalities are in a given room. Considering that these two already came to blows in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – a bout which was all but decisively won by the Dark Knight – we expect this scene to more so be equivalent to a quarrel amongst siblings and add some levity to the film. And if Aquaman has a few points to interject, we certainly won’t complain.
Director Zack Snyder all but confirmed our suspicion with his added statement:
“I think it’s in all the characters inherently, this larger than life, big, fun stuff, especially when you’re dealing with the Justice League.”
I have to agree with him. Part of the fun of playing around in this sandbox is seeing how these characters interact and giving them the freedom to do so. After all, it’s the little moments such as these that you just don’t get in solo films and are likely a big reason why audiences turn out in droves for the team-ups.
Justice League, which was recently confirmed to have added several new characters, arrives in theatres on November 17, 2017.
