Expect Rey, Finn And Poe To Be Put To The Test In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Finn, Rey and Poe Dameron will find themselves tested like never before in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, according to Oscar Isaac.

It’s only during times of adversity where we reveal our true sense of character – at least, that’s how the old saying goes, and Oscar Isaac believes that adage can be applied to Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Ever since the official title was revealed back in January, Rian Johnson’s blockbuster sequel has been pitched as a much darker, slightly more intense film than its next of kin, The Force Awakens. That’s a shift in tone that shone through The Last Jedi‘s inaugural teaser, in which Daisy Ridley’s Force user started to wrangle her Jedi abilities under control. Dark and difficult times lie ahead for Rey, though, and that’s something Oscar Isaac echoed during an interview with The Guardian.

Isaac, who’s currently in the midst of The Promise‘s press tour, recently touched on the “intense” scene he shared with the late, great Carrie Fisher. But here, the actor paints in broad strokes, noting how all of the characters that viewers have been acquainted with – Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron and many more – through The Force Awakens will find “their weaknesses tested” come December. Assuming this applies to both sides of the moral spectrum, perhaps Oscar Isaac is also referring to Adam Driver’s wounded Kylo Ren? Time will tell.

Per The Guardian:

The characters that you know already: their specific character flaws or their weaknesses get tested. And out of that, I think, you get to see a bit more of who they are. The best way to learn about somebody is to see them in a crisis.

Look for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to zoom into theaters on December 15th. There’s a handful of other Star Wars projects gestating at the Mouse House, too – namely Episode IX and the Han Solo anthology movie – and we fully expect to learn more about each tentpole before the year’s end.
