The Expendables 3 Gets A Release Date

Whenever anyone asks me why I like The Expendables franchise, I respond with a blank look and then shout: “OLD PEOPLE BLOWING THINGS UP!” Because, really, that’s what we’re all here for. With The Expendables 3 getting a proper (read: awesome) cast together, it was only a matter of time before Lionsgate informed us of how long we’ll have to wait for the next installment of Muscleheads in Steroidland. The release date for The Expendables 3 is set for August 15, 2014.

Announced this week, the release date for The Expendables 3 is set for August 15th, 2014.

That is far too long, in my opinion. I want my massive explosions NOW.  This Expendables has, if possible, more badasses per square inch than either of the other two combined. Along with the original Expendables cast – including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, etc. – we have confirmed cast members in Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Mickey Rourke and Nicolas Cage. There has been talk of bringing in Steven Seagal as well. Oh, and The Expendables 3 might also be adding a female badass to their mix. Milla Jovovich is in talks to join the testosterone brigade.

So we’re going to have to wait a little while for the next much-needed injection of cinematic badassery. But not to fear! If you’re really hot to watch sexagenarians shooting big guns and getting the baddies, you have only to wait until October 18, 2013 for Escape Plan, starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwartzenegger. Rejoice!

Shooting has not yet begun on The Expendables 3, but the cast continues to increase exponentially. It’s growing into a Wes Anderson movie, awash with cameos, only with more guns. Lots more guns.

We can expect more casting news before shooting finally gets underway on The Expendables 3. Right now I’m wracking my brain for a 1980s badass who has yet to appear in the franchise. Maybe Linda Hamilton? Seriously, how awesome would that be?
