Fans of The Expendables can get ready for more guns, explosions and cheesy one-liners as the third instalment in the action franchise, to be directed by Red Hill‘s Patrick Hughes, is set for release in late 2014.

The Expendables 3 is currently shooting in the Bulgarian city of Varna, east of capital Sofia, and we have some set photos for you to check out below:

Many of the set photos show the mayor of Varna, Ivan Portnih, meeting and greeting some of the many stars of The Expendables 3, including action legends Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Terry Crews. The Varna set is dressed up as a heavily fortified Somali shipyard, which will likely be the site of some serious action by the Expendables in the film.

The Expendables 3 will find group leader Barney Ross (Stallone) taking on the team’s original co-founder, Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson). Ross originally was believed to have killed Stonebanks after he became a repressive arms trader bent on destruction, but Stonebanks survived and returns to exact revenge on the team in this installment. In order to take him down, Ross turns to a younger generation of Expendables to strengthen his team.

Judging by how beaten up all of the actors look, especially Stallone and Statham, it looks like Expendables 3 will find the characters in some pretty dangerous situations. It’s a good thing that Stallone has the franchise’s strongest line-up yet behind him this time.

The Expendables 3 boasts a phenomenal cast of action all-stars including a mix of franchise veterans, like Jet Li and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and fresh faces for the series, such as Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Immortals actor Kellan Lutz, professional boxer Victor Ortiz and mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey.

The Expendables 3 will blast into theaters on August 15th, 2014.
