Explosive New Terminator: Genisys Trailer Includes First Footage Of J.K. Simmons

In today’s modern trailer-mad world, it’s typically the case that once the first one arrives, the rest to follow merely recut that same footage. For Alan Taylor’s reset version of the Terminator timeline, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) is jettisoned back through time to once more protect John Connor (Jason Clarke)’s mother, Sarah (Emilia Clarke), from a murderous T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger – well, a digital version, anyway). In a twisted angle on Termie lore, Reese soon discovers that actually, this Sarah ain’t no fragile gal without an ounce of willpower – she’s steering trucks through storefront windows and packin’ heat to boot!

But, that much we knew from earlier trailers. Now we’ve a chance to see other cast members doing their thing in this altered Termi-verse. The wrap-around story for this one-minute clip involves Sarah explaining to Detective O’Brien the nature of what’s happening (judgment day, Skynet, that whole debacle). O’Brien is played by recent Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, who navigates his way through their conversation with a cheeky glint.

For those keen to see more of the series’ iconic roster of cybernetic organisms, there’s a few extended shots of Arnie’s “guardian” Terminator and Byung-Hun Lee as the mysterious new liquid metal robot.

Co-starring Dayo Okeniyi, Matthew Smith and Courtney B. Vance Terminator: Genisys opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 1 in the US and July 3 in the UK.
