Fan-Made Trailer Introduces A Nightmare On Elm Street As Netflix’s Hot New Series

YouTuber José Mellinas (via Bloody Disgusting) has produced a faux trailer that reimagines A Nightmare on Elm Street as Netflix's hot new series.

For the purpose of this article, we’re gunna’ need you to suspend your disbelief – so much so, in fact, that the idea of A Nightmare on Elm Street being Netflix’s hot new original series seems plausible…even compelling.

Because that’s exactly what YouTuber José Mellinas has proposed with his rather wonderful fan-made trailer. First spotted by the folks at Bloody Disgusting, up above you’ll see that Mellinas cuts together footage from Sony’s Flatliners reboot and The New Mutants to create a modern and decidedly creepy portrayal of Elm Street. Besides, after seven years without Freddy Krueger, this is a potent reminder that cinema’s charred killer still has the ability to strike fear into our hearts.

But Freddy will return…eventually. This year alone has witnessed all sorts of horror-tinged revivals (see: Jigsaw, Leatherface, and Amityville: The Awakening), while Halloween is expected to creep out of the shadows sometime in 2018. The jury’s still out on when A Nightmare on Elm Street will return, as New Line hasn’t issued a single update in months, but Mellinas’ faux trailer ought to sate your appetite in the meantime.

José Mellinas is by no means the first horror fan to have a crack at a fan-made trailer for A Nightmare On Elm Street, but the way in which he positions said reboot as a Netflix series does present some interesting food for thought. Indeed, do you believe Wes Craven’s classic would be better suited to the Netflix template, perhaps angling itself as a more adult-oriented version of Stranger Things? You can drop your thoughts below.

Meanwhile, New Line continues to pour resources into its Nightmare On Elm Street reboot. After much deliberation, Robert Englund won’t be back, but we do know that David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2) has been tasked with penning the script.
