Fox Reportedly Working On A Fantastic Four Versus The X-Men Movie

Well, it was only a matter of time, wasn't it? With Fox making every effort to maximize the Marvel franchises to which they own the rights, and Warner Bros. generating a ridiculous amount of buzz with their Batman Vs. Superman movie, you'd have had to be asleep to not see a Fantastic Four Versus The X-Men movie coming. Now investment website The Motley Fool is reporting that just such an arrangement is in the works, because that's exactly the sort of thing an investor would want to hear.

Well, it was only a matter of time, wasn’t it? With Fox making every effort to maximize the Marvel franchises to which they own the rights, and Warner Bros. generating a ridiculous amount of buzz with their Batman Vs. Superman movie, you’d have had to be asleep to not see a Fantastic Four Versus The X-Men movie coming. Now, investment website The Motley Fool is reporting that just such an arrangement is in the works, because that’s exactly the sort of thing an investor would want to hear.

Fox has already been working to wring every last cent of profit out of their superhero properties, rebooting The Fantastic Four in addition to working on the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past and its already-announced follow-up, X-Men: Apocalypse.

In other words, this is not a studio that is resting on its laurels.

According to The Motley Fool, the Fantastic Four Versus The X-Men movie will be “based on a 1987 four issue comic called Fantastic Four vs. X-Men,” and “the movie will see the characters against each other because of secrets regarding the Fantastic Four’s origin.” It will be interesting to see how faithful to the original comic the film will be, although it’s not likely to be too faithful given that the continuity of the existing and in-development films are pretty far-removed from the Marvel universe of the 1980s.

Still, if Fox pulls it off and if moviegoers aren’t suffering from superhero movie fatigue by the time Fantastic Four Versus The X-Men comes out (which is a very real possibility), then this could be one of the most epic (and profitable) superhero movies of all time. That’s saying a lot, given just how many epic superhero movies are in the works right now.
