New Fast & Furious 7 Images Tease Dwayne Johnson’s Throwdown With Jason Statham

The sixth installment in Universal Studios' astoundingly durable Fast & Furious franchise emerged as one of this past summer's biggest box-office smashes, as well as one of its guiltiest pleasures, so it would be an understatement to say we're excited to see what comes next. And although Fast & Furious 7 isn't set to touch down until next summer, co-star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is already giving us a sneak peek at what we can expect from the film with two Instagram shots.

The sixth installment in Universal Studios’ astoundingly durable Fast & Furious franchise emerged as one of this past summer’s biggest box-office smashes, as well as one of its guiltiest pleasures, so it would be an understatement to say we’re excited to see what comes next. And although Fast & Furious 7 isn’t set to touch down until next summer, co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is already giving us a sneak peek at what we can expect from the film with two Instagram shots.

In the first image, we see Johnson’s brawny DSS Agent Luke Hobbs standing at attention, ready to leap into action at the command of director James Wan (Insidious):

The caption for the picture, which was posted on The Rock’s Instagram account, reads:

“I didn’t bring the cavalry.. I AM the cavalry” ~#HobbsTheBeast On set. 4am. High on dirty thoughts & adrenaline as I wait for my director and partner in crime, James Wan (standing deep in the background) to yell “ACTION”. #FastAndFurious7#SilverbackOfTheLaw #ThisIsHowIWalkIntoMyBedroom

As cool as the above image is, it doesn’t tell us much about the specifics of Fast & Furious 7. The Rock’s next tease, however, confirms a highly anticipated brawl between his character and British action all-star Jason Statham, who plays Ian Shaw, the vengeful brother of Fast & Furious 6’s tank-toting antagonist. Check out the mashup image below, along with an enthusiastic caption from The Rock.

If you don’t already follow The Rock on Instagram, get on that. The actor is passionate about his projects, and that translates over into his captions, which always seem to read like miniature pump-up jams. Check out his latest plug:

From UFC champs to WWE champs to Olympic gold medalists – I’ve fought them all and we’ve bled (literally) all over the damn ring together. It was fun scrap (finally) w/ an actor with legit fighting skills who’s just a tad f*cking crazy… You guys will enjoy this fight. #Epic #RockVsStatham #FastAndFurious #HesGotAHelluvaSpinningBackFist #GuessWhosGettingRockBottomed

As a major fan of the Fast & Furious franchise, I’m extremely excited to see what kind of high-octane mayhem Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and company get up to in this installment. Though the series had admittedly humble origins as a bare-bones street-racing adventure, it has expanded and improved since then to become one of the most reliable, fresh and consistently eye-popping action franchises in Hollywood today.

Fast & Furious 6 has not yet hit store shelves, so I won’t spoil how Statham was teased in that film, but it’s safe to say that heads will roll in this next entry. With Ong Bak‘s Tony Jaa signed on for a role and Tokyo Drift‘s Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) rejoining the rest of the characters, along with newcomers Kurt Russell and Djimon Hounsou, the potential for blockbuster glory seems sky-high.

Are you excited to see Statham throw down with Diesel, The Rock and maybe even Jaa in the upcoming film? Sound off in the comments section!

Fast & Furious 7 races into theaters on July 11th, 2014.
