The Fault In Our Stars Gets A Bittersweet First Poster

John Green's young-adult instant classic The Fault in Our Stars lit up dozens of best sellers charts last year, and 20th Century Fox is hoping that a film adaptation of the tear-jerker will be met with equal acclaim and success. After optioning the project in January of 2012, the studio sat on The Fault in Our Stars for a full year, until news broke last February that Stuck in Love director Josh Boone had signed on to sit behind the camera.

John Green’s young-adult instant classic The Fault in Our Stars lit up dozens of best sellers charts last year, and 20th Century Fox is hoping that a film adaptation of the tear-jerker will be met with equal acclaim and success. After optioning the project in January of 2012, the studio sat on The Fault in Our Stars for a full year, until news broke last February that Stuck in Love director Josh Boone had signed on to sit behind the camera.

Soon after, Shailene Woodley (The Spectacular Now), pictured above, and Ansel Elgort (Carrie) were cast in the lead roles of Hazel Lancaster and Augustus Walters, two teenaged cancer patients who meet at a support group and begin a relationship. Cameras rolled on the project this past August through October, with shoots in Pittsburgh and Amsterdam.

Now, Fox has unveiled a first poster for The Fault in Our Stars, which presents its two photogenic leads while also highlighting a bittersweet side to the central love story.

Fan reception to the casting of Woodley and Elgort has been highly positive, so a lot of people are likely eager to see The Fault in Our Stars hit theaters. Though I haven’t read Green’s novel, I enjoyed Boone’s directorial debut Stuck in Love tremendously, so I’m interested to see him take on another teen-targeted, romantic story. The film also boasts a promising pair of screenwriters: Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who previously collaborated on (500) Days of Summer and The Spectacular Now.

In addition to Woodley and Elgort, The Fault in Our Stars will co-star Nat Wolff, Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Mike Birbiglia and Willem Dafoe.

The Fault in Our Stars will arrive on June 6th, 2014.
