Feast Your Eyes On New Star Trek Into Darkness Images

Though much mystery still surrounds J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, the layers are slowly being peeled back. First, we received an explosive trailer that more than satisfied our thirst for the film. Though much mystery still surrounds J.J. AbramsStar Trek Into Darkness, the layers are slowly being peeled back. First, we received an explosive trailer that more than satisfied our thirst for the film. Now, today, as fans are still putting together the clues dropped in that trailer, Paramount has delivered a whole bunch of new images for us to feast our eyes on.

There’s a good handful of them (all of which can be seen below) and they give us a great look at most of the cast, including Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and more. The focus is clearly on Pine and Cumberbatch though, who look to be going head to head in what is sure to be an explosive fashion.

I really can’t wait to see Cumerbatch’s work in the film. He is one of my favorite actors and to see him playing the villain in a big blockbuster like this is something that excites me greatly. I have no doubt that he is going to kill the part and honestly, I think he will steal the show, hands down. I can’t see anyone else in the cast being able to match him.

The stills all look great and while they unfortunately don’t give us too many details on Cumberbatch’s mysterious villain role (which has caused enormous speculation), I think we can safely say that he looks more than menacing and will be a formidable opponent for Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk.

Check out the plot summary and images below and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Star Trek Into Darkness beams into theaters (regular and IMAX 3D) on May 17th, 2013.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
