Mad Max: Fury Road may be turning heads and raising eyebrows for its bat-shit insane set pieces, with the trailers released thus far offering a glimpse at the remarkable stunts residing within George Miller's post-apocalyptic actioner, but this final trailer released by Warner Bros. shines a light on the core plot driving the greasy, sun-scorched blockbuster, and it all centers around the Five Wives.

With Tom Hardy on board to play the titular lone wolf, the long-gestating sequel will see the protagonist cross paths with Charlize Theron’s no-nonsense Furiosa, who is attempting to escort the women across an immense, near-unassailable stretch of desert. It’s unclear exactly why Theron’s badass character is attempting to rescue the Five Wives – Splendid, Fragile, Toast, Capable and The Dag – but given that they are the so-called property of Immortan Joe, it isn’t long before both Furiosa and Hardy find themselves hunted by the most bloodthirsty gang in the Wasteland.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Courtney Eaton and Abbey Lee play the aforementioned Five Wives, with Nicholas Hoult and Hugh Keays-Byrne rounding out the impressive cast list.

Mad Max: Fury Road is now only a couple of weeks away with Miller’s blockbuster due to arrive on May 15. For now, you can share your impressions of the action-packed final trailer using the comments section below.

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
