Today at D23, Disney revealed some new details about their upcoming film, Finding Dory. Acting as a sequel to Andrew Stanton’s wildly successful Finding Nemo, the film will find Albert Brooks reprising his role as Marlin and Ellen DeGeneres stepping back into the part of Dory. Now we’re hearing that several other big names have joined the cast as Eugene Levy, Diane Keaton and Ty Burrell have all signed on.
Keaton and Levy will play Dory’s parents, Charlie and Jenny, while Burrell will play a beluga whale named Bailey, who will act as a comedic sidekick. In addition to the casting news, we also have some early plot details.
Apparently, the story will pick up one year after the events of Finding Nemo and finds Dory living with her family on a reef. Of course, her memory loss is still an issue and when a traumatic event sets off what is referred to as Dory’s “homing instinct,” she goes off to search for her family while Nemo and Marlin try to find her. Unfortunately, that’s all we have for you right now but we’ll be sure to keep you posted when anything else arises.
As a big fan of Finding Nemo, I’m very excited to see what Disney and Pixar have cooked up for the sequel. The original is one of the best animated films of all time and is no doubt a classic. It’s going to take something truly special to make Finding Dory a worthy follow-up. Do Stanton and co. have what it takes? I sure hope so.
