Having only kick-started production late last week, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is beginning life with a bang, with the first set photo emerging from the Anthology film that showcases a downed Starship.

Rumors are already coming in thick and fast, with the most recent tidbit seemingly shedding light on Mads Mikkelsen’s role in Gareth Edwards’ standalone feature. A signature by the former Hannibal actor appeared to at least hint that he could be in line to play Galen Malek, protagonist of the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed who boasts the ability to channel the Force. It’s all speculation at this point, though, but at least today we have some concrete details to feast our eyes on.

Unearthed by TMZ, the photo is taken from Rogue One‘s London set, and it’s certainly a destructive peak behind the scenes.

Given the dead Stormtroppers that litter the terrain, the downed vessel likely belongs to the Empire, which may have been a high-profile target to the film’s motley crew as the set about mounting a mission to salvage the blueprints from the first Death Star. Could this possibly involve infiltrating an enemy TIE Fighter and hiding in plain sight, or gaining intel from the horse’s mouth itself – i.e., the Stormtroppers.

Employing guerrilla tactics to pull off the most daring stunt in the galaxy, there’s a decidedly low-key feel to Edwards’ Rogue One right off the bat. Rather than following a hooting group of do-gooders, the director’s standalone feature will orbit around a much more questionable bunch, which ought to make for a more intriguing watch – and the perfect antidote – in the wake of The Force Awakens.

With production now well underway, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is on course to release on December 16, 2016.
