Back in August, we heard that we’ll be getting our first look at The Dark Tower on October 29th during Entertainment Weekly’s Popfest event. It’s been a long wait for fans who’ve been eager to see footage ever since the adaption was announced, and though we don’t have much longer to go, a leaked version of the trailer has now made its way online.

The Taiwanese division of Sony Pictures uploaded the video to their YouTube channel by accident, and it’s now found its way onto numerous websites for your viewing pleasure. As you can see by watching it above, it’s not exactly great quality, with some of the effects definitely not complete yet. However, given that this is our first look at the highly anticipated film, we’ll take what we can get.

Most of the footage here centers on Tom Taylor’s Jake as he’s drawn to Mid-World, which is where he’ll eventually encounter the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) and the Gunslinger (Idris Elba). From what we see here, there’s clearly been some changes made to Stephen King’s narrative during the adaptation process. That being said, we already knew those tweaks would result in The Dark Tower being angled as more of a sequel.

You see, as opposed to beginning at the start of The Gunslinger, director Nikolaj Arcel and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman chose to delve into the center of King’s saga. After that, all bets are off. Two key characters from the page won’t even feature in this first movie.

Circling back to the trailer though, while it’s still in a very unfinished state, a couple of the action shots look promising and Elba appears to be a great fit for the role. All in all, it’s an effective introduction to this exciting world and we can’t wait to see an official version once it’s released.

The Dark Tower will make its way into theatres on February 17th, 2017. Check out the leaked footage above and comment below letting us know what you think.
