Hot on the heels of Tuesday’s enticing teaser is the first fully-fledged trailer for Insurgent, the second cinematic instalment from Veronica Roth’s widely popular YA franchise. After the first entry into the teen dystopia trilogy landed earlier this year, taking in a sizeable haul at the box office and placating fans of the original novels, a sequel seemed inevitable. Now, we’ve got the first broad glimpse at what we can expect when the second part debuts in cinemas next spring.

Directed by series newcomer Robert Schwentke, the anticipated sequel is poised to pick up directly where its predecessor left off. With Tris and Four — played once again by Shailene Woodley and Theo James, respectively — now deemed to be wanted criminals, the pair must venture through the remnants of a post-apocalyptic Chicago in order to survive.

Such a feat pits them against Kate Winslet’s Jeanine, the malevolent leader of the corrupt and power-hungry Erudite elite, as Tris looks to discover more about her past and, more importantly, what her parents died trying to protect.

Without giving too much away – although if you’ve read the books you know what’s coming – the trailer intends to make one thing perfectly clear. This time it’s WAR! With what appears to be a bigger budget, the flashiest showcases here are on the action set-pieces. Tris’ skills appear to have improved considerably, either as a result of her new haircut providing her with better aerodynamic capabilities, or the tough survival skills learned as a fugitive.

Either way, Woodley looks more confident this time around. However, the standout parts rest firmly on the shoulders of Kate Winslet, the best element of the series, who relishes the villainous role that she was born to play.

Insurgent will kick off the blockbuster season ahead of schedule when it races into theaters on March 20, 2015. Until then, let us know what you make of the first full-length trailer in the comments section below.

Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
