David Fincher turned Gillian Flynn into a household name with his adaptation of her novel Gone Girl, which led many into believing her entire back catalogue would soon receive similar treatment. That assumption isn’t entirely untrue – it’s just taking much longer than expected. One of Flynn’s earlier works, Dark Places, preys on a similar vibration to Gone Girl (i.e. it’s a page-turner that’s creepy as hell) and is now on its way to the big screen.
Simmering away for some time now, the movie has finally been granted a European release this spring and a glut of new promo materials have arrived. Following the slow-burning teaser trailer which debuted in the last month, a new gallery of stills and behind the scenes set photos shed more light into the dark crevasses of the film’s eerie world.
Directed by Sarah’s Key helmer Gilles Paquet-Brenner, Dark Places tells the tale of Libby Day (Charlize Theron). After surviving a massacre that wiped out her family, she later testifies in court against her brother whom she claims is the man responsible. Years later a true crime collective try to change her point of view, and hint that her long-suffering sibling may not have been the murderer.
Co-starring Drea de Matteo, Nicholas Hoult, Corey Stoll, Sterling Jerins, Tye Sheridan and Shannon Kook Dark Places opens on April 8, 2015 in France. As yet, there’s no US release date.
A feature adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel, “Dark Places” tells the story of Libby Day, a woman who, at the age of 7, survives the massacre of her family and testifies against her brother as the murderer. Twenty-five years later, a group obsessed with solving notorious crimes confronts her with questions about the horrific event.
