George Clooney’s The Ides Of March To Open The Venice Film Festival

In my eyes, George Clooney can do no wrong. He's an extraordinary screen talent, no one dominates the frame quite like he does. His weight as a filmmaker behind the camera is also largely impressive, with the noted dip of Leatherheads (OK he can do wrong), he knows how to piece together riveting dramas. With this in mind, his next film a political thriller called The Ides of March could set to stun.

In my eyes, George Clooney can do no wrong. He’s an extraordinary screen talent, no one dominates the frame quite like he does. His weight as a filmmaker behind the camera is also largely impressive, with the noted dip of Leatherheads (OK he can do wrong), he knows how to piece together riveting dramas. With this in mind, his next film a political thriller called The Ides of March could set to stun.

The film will open the Venice Film Festival on August 31st. In previous years, they’ve had some real barnstormers opening the Italian festival. Last year it opened with Darren Aronofsky‘s ballet melodrama Black Swan. Unlike Clooney’s other directorial efforts, this will also feature him in the lead role. He plays a presidential candidate Mike Morris who gets involved in numerous scandals.

Based on a play by Beau Willimon called Farragut North, Clooney writes and directs as well as starring alongside a stellar cast which includes Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright and Evan Rachel Wood. The Ides of March opens Venice and will be released a month or so later on October 7th in the US.
