New Godzilla Poster Clears The Way To Comic-Con

Despite Pacific Rim not quite making the numbers it deserves, it has helped to prove that the American public does indeed like watching big monsters destroy stuff. To this end, we’re gearing up for the far away release of the Godzilla remake, as that film crashes its way towards another Comic-Con teaser. In order to build hype, we now have a brand spanking new poster of the big nasty atomic creature, along with a little message from the film’s director Gareth Edwards.

Godzilla has just about finished principle photography, but it does not come out until May 2014. The film’s stellar cast includes Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, Elizabeth Olsen and David Straithairn; that’s more than enough to get me into the movie theatre.

The poster does not, sadly, give us a glimpse of the big old monster, but rather the rubble of a city in the shape of the monster. This can probably be taken as an indication of what Edwards and Warner Brothers have in store for Comic-Con: rumor abounds that we’re finally going to get a look at Godzilla himself. About time, I say.

This, by the way, is borne out both by Gareth Edwards little teaser in the video below, and via the Godzilla website. The website just released a graphic showing a ‘hazard warning,’ with the words ‘The Encounter is Coming’ beneath. I think that everyone’s getting just a little excited for Comic-Con.

As for me, I want to know what the movie will look like. I want to see Godzilla. I would also very much like to know what sort of plot/explanation for the creature’s existence the film will follow. With the release date almost a year away, there’s sure to be a lot more marketing going on. So far we’ve only had fleeting glimpses. I want a proper trailer!

You can check out the Godzilla poster below and Edwards video after that. Then we’re just going to have to wait for Comic-Con.
