11) Leonardo DiCaprio
Today I learned that the guy Cage was bidding against for that dinosaur skull (which ended up costing him almost $300,000), was Leonardo DiCaprio. Weird, hey? I don’t know what to make of this guy. His résumé speaks for itself. Django Unchained, Inception, Shutter Island, Revolutionary Road, Blood Diamond, The Departed, The Aviator—these are movies from just the last decade and it’s enough to guarantee a hall of fame career. And he’s damn good in all of them too, especially Revolutionary Road, where he really loses it a few times in the best possible way. He’s considered to be one of the best if not the best actor of his generation, and it’s with good reason. His talent is undeniable.
At the same time, he’s one of those actors who seems to be more star than actor, in the vein of Will Smith, for example, where any project he takes on has to feature him front and center, preferably with the name of his character in the title if it’s not too much trouble thanks. His charity work is the type that’s noble and everything but a little self-aggrandizing and self-righteous for my tastes, and I suspect it’s all just a ploy to attract more 20-something-year-old models for him to continue to date.
And the quitting acting thing? What, are you gonna run for mayor of New York too? Trust me dude, just stick with the whole “playing a spoiled man-boy character” thing you’ve got going for you. It’s working.
