Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’s Opening Will Be “Cooler” Than The First; New Pic Invites You Behind The Scenes

Responding to one curious fan via Twitter, James Gunn has promised that the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be even better than the first.

“Star-Lord, man. Legendary Outlaw? Guys?!” As far as first impressions go, it’s fair to say that Chris Pratt nailed Peter Quill from the very beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy three years ago. One heart-wrenching flashback later and our newfound Marvel icon was dancing to Redbone’s fist-pumping power ballad “Come And Get Your Love” while exploring a dark, dank alien cave, effectively subverting expectations in one fell swoop.

Can the opening sequence of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 possibly emulate the first? James Gunn certainly believes so. In responding to one curious fan via Twitter, the writer-director teased that the sequel’s opening is “cooler” than the original, but naturally stopped short of revealing any concrete details so early on.

Assuming that Gunn and his editing team have refrained from inserting any part of GotG Vol. 2‘s opening in those thrilling trailers, we fully expect May’s sequel to dive straight into the action from the outset, gathering Star-Lord, Gamora and the rest of the gang to complete an alien bounty. Then again, there’s every chance that the fight against that tendriled space beast will go on to become the film’s opening sequence, but that’s just conjecture for now.

In related news, the filmmaker took to Instagram to invite fans behind the scenes on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The picture, embedded below, finds the Milano in trouble with Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax talking over tactics in the cockpit.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 makes a beeline for theaters on May 5th, and it’s already scoring off the charts in Marvel’s internal test screenings.
