Eagle-Eyed Fan Uncovers Skrull Easter Egg From Guardians Of The Galaxy

Via Twitter, James Gunn has confirmed that a Skrull Easter egg has been tucked away in Guardians of the Galaxy, even if it's not the super-secret one he's alluded to in the past.

One curious Marvel fan has identified an elusive Skrull Easter egg from Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s not the super-secret one James Gunn has alluded to in the past.

Per Twitter, the eagle-eyed user posted a screenshot of Stan Lee’s hilarious cameo from Guardians 1, where the Marvel Comics legend can be seen regaling a local Xander resident about his adventures in the cosmos – much to the amusement of Rocket Raccoon. It also plays into the fan theory that Lee’s on-screen character is actually a Watcher, and all of his many appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been made possible because he is, in fact, the same character every time.

This mind-bogglingly plotline was also threaded into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in which Stan Lee cameoed as a verbose astronaut with “so many stories to tell.” So perhaps the Cameo King has been secretly playing the same character all along? Who knows, but thanks to James Gunn, we now have confirmation that the first Guardians movie contains a subtle nod to the Skrulls.

They’re the shape-shifting aliens set to appear in Captain Marvel next year, and the fact that James Gunn has long expressed his admiration of the Skrulls means this particular Easter egg is less of a surprise and more of a fascinating piece of MCU trivia.

The hunt continues, then. And don’t expect James Gunn to offer up any further clues; while replying underneath the original tweet, the fan-favorite filmmaker, who also holds an executive producer credit on Avengers: Infinity War, refused to reveal the identity of the other Guardians of the Galaxy Easter egg, which has eluded fans for the best part of four years.

Next up for Gunn’s ragtag space crew is the release of Avengers: Infinity War next month, where they’ll presumably take a backseat to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Thanos, the Mad Titan who is said to hold a pretty substantial role in the Marvel crossover – so much so, in fact, that people are already hailing Avengers 3 as Thanos’ origin story.
