According to Variety, former child star Haley Joel Osment will return to the big screen in the Frankenstein-themed film Wake the Dead. Best known for his role as Cole Sear in M. Night Shyamalan‘s The Sixth Sense, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 11, the now 23-year-old Osment is ready to make a big screen comeback.

Based on the graphic novels by Steven Niles, Wake the Dead tells the story of Victor Franklin (Osment), a college student experimenting with reversing death. The film will be directed by Jay Russell (Ladder 49) and will be produced through Slasher Films, the horror production company from Guns ‘n’ Roses lead guitarist Slash. The film will go into production this fall with no release date set.

The film industry is becoming swamped with a number of Frankenstein-themed films on the way. Fox has one, Summit has one as well entitled The Dark Endeavor, and Universal has one in development with Guillermo del Toro in the driver’s seat. Hopefully Osment can bring some of the success of The Sixth Sense into the film and relaunch his career.

Will this be one of the Frankenstein films you’ll pay to see?
