Supporting Characters And Other Details Revealed For Hellboy Reboot

Even though its confirmation seemingly came out of nowhere, the Hellboy reboot may very well be among the most anticipated comic book movies currently in development, despite it not even having a concrete release date as of yet. Set to be directed by Neil Marshall with David Harbour having been recast in the title role and Milla Jovovich on board as the main villain, it's obvious that no time is being wasted in getting this production off the ground.

Speaking of which, Splash Report claims they have a source close to the project who has been able to spill some beans regarding what we can expect from the upcoming revival. Not surprisingly, they corroborate earlier reports of a darker tone, in addition to painting a fine mental picture of what the production design team has in store for us all.

Here’s their report in full:

You will see the B.P.R.D. HEADQUARTERS, which is on a snow-capped mountainside, you will see arcane artifacts: cryptid skeletons, freakish things encased in formaldehyde, period weapons. Fans will also get to see the symbol of a hand holding a sword, with the words: IN ABSENTIA LUCI, TENEBRAE VINCIUNT.

The Hellboy reboot will indeed be Rated R and will be a darker horror story than the lighter tone from the previous del Toro films, as you get to see a lot of cool actions scenes that include severed heads. There are some creatures of darkness, one creature has giant tentacles which wraps themselves around the London Bridge, hence why the film will be filmed in London.

When it comes to who will be comprising the ranks of the B.P.R.D., one in particular shouldn’t surprise us – that, of course, being Abe Sapien. After all, it could be argued that he’s the most popular of the supporting characters from the source material and, if a Hellboy Cinematic Universe is one day spawned from this, one would think he’ll be the first to get a spinoff of his own.

Anyway, here’s who we’re expecting to see:

-Abe Sapien
-Alice Monaghan: She can hear dead people. She will also use the Spirit Wrack.
-Major Ben Daimio: rugged military type with cold, calculating eyes, close-cropped hair and three jagged scars raked across his grizzled face. Has a cool transformation, which I can not spoil.

As for other characters set to appear, here are some additional folks who may be included:

-Gruagach, a fairy creature that looks like a pig and is a vengeful adversary of Hellboy. He blames Hellboy for his current state and wants revenge.
-Baba Yaga the witch.
-King Arthur
-Merlin

One other juicy nugget to come from the report is a hint that Marshall and company are thinking big because the “film leaves it wide up for a sequel as you get to see who Hellboy is going after next.” Should this prove true, we hope the reboot is a success, lest we’re left with another incomplete story.
