We imagine it must be tough enough for actors and actresses to get through love scenes in a normal movie, but when it comes to the stuff in the Fifty Shades series, well, that’s a whole other ball game. Known for its steamy, kinky and most definitely R-rated content, they might not be the most explicit films ever made, but they do require their stars to go through what must be some pretty awkward scenes. As such, many have often wondered how Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson prepare for that.
Not surprisingly, it turns out that for the latter at least, alcohol helps a lot. Speaking in a recent interview to promote the next instalment in the franchise, Fifty Shades Freed, the actress said the following on how she gets ready for those moments.
Shot of whiskey [and] mints. He does pushups and I just lay there and drink whiskey.
Makes sense, right? After all, alcohol calms the nerves while Dornan, being shirtless for so much of the film, needs to make sure he’s looking his best.
It’s also interesting to note that both actors mentioned how for the first outing, Fifty Shades of Grey, they found it a lot more uncomfortable since they’d just met. Now, however, three films in, it’s a lot easier as they’ve grown closer.
“I was only cast five weeks before we started filming the first movie, and that’s when I met Dakota [Johnson] for the first time” Doran explained. “[Now] it’s been three years, [and] Dakota and I are very close.” “We’ve got a great sort of love and respect for each other. We’re great friends and I think that makes it easier, you know? So it’s definitely more comfortable.”
“It never gets [easy], but because we’ve become so close it was a lot easier to make [the scenes} special,” Johnson added.
Of course, the Fifty Shades saga will continue this coming February with Fifty Shades Freed, which will close the book on Christian and Anastasia’s story. Following the events of Darker, the couple are now married, but all is not perfect, as Ana’s “threatened when her former boss, Jack Hyde, swears revenge for being fired from SIP. Elena also returns to haunt Christian and makes their lives a lot more troublesome.”
Fifty Shades Freed courts moviegoers back into Ana and Christian’s world on February 9th, 2018. Rounding out the cast are Tyler Hoechlin, Max Martini, Rita Ora and Victor Rasuk, among others.
