Well, it’s a hit! The Hunger Games has scored a massive $68.3 million opening day, giving it the best opening day ever for a non-sequel and the fifth best opening day of all time. No doubt its massive pre-established fanbase helped drive ticket sales but the film has also been earning positive reviews from most critics, which surely contributed to its incredible box office figures.

If it keeps this up, it could finish the weekend with close to, if not more than $150 million, which would be absolutely unbelievable. The film to beat is Twilight: New Moon, which took in $142.8 million and at this rate, The Hunger Games may surpass that. If it really pushes ahead, it may even take over Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, which had the largest opening ever with $169.2 million!

Of course, these numbers should surprise no one. We all knew the film would be a hit, the question now is just how big of a hit will it be? Can it surpass Twilight? What about Harry?
