New Image Of Paul Giamatti As Rhino In The Amazing Spider-Man 2

If you’re one of the many people who dug The Amazing Spider-Man, then I guess you must be getting pretty excited right about now for the aptly named The Amazing Spider-Man 2. With the movie picking up speed and all kinds of big name actors appearing (Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti), it sounds like it’s going to be pretty cool. In the fine tradition of franchises slowly leaking images of major characters, we have here a single image of Paul Giamatti, looking very angry as his character Aleksei Sytsevich.

In the comic books, Sytsevich is a vaguely Eastern European criminal who is genetically manipulated into developing a super thick skin and crazy physical abilities, earning him the name Rhino. Giamatti certainly looks vaguely Eastern European, with a barbed wire tattoo across his forehead that recalls Russian prison tattoos (I learned that from Iron Man 2 and Eastern Promises). With that in mind, we can probably assume that Rhino’s backstory in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is going to be pretty much the same as the comic book.

What worries me just a little is the sheer number of villains they’re throwing into the mix for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We’ve got Jamie Foxx as Electro, Giamatti as Rhino, and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn (not to mention son Harry). The last time Spiderman had this many villains to deal with, it did not turn out so well, movie-wise.

That being said, Giamatti looks appropriately angry/menacing to play a dude who turns into a rhino. We shall put our faith in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb, and hope he does not pull what Raimi pulled in Spider-Man 3. Andrew Garfield is already halfway to emo-dom anyways.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 webslings into theatres May 2, 2014 (sorry, it’s like a requirement that I make that joke at least once). Check out the latest image of Giamatti below.
