New Images From John Hillcoat’s Lawless

The Playlist, via Empire, recently got a look at some new images from the film, and while they're nothing particularly special, it does show more of the interesting period detail going into the film. For those who don't know, the film tells "the story of a moonshine slinging trio of brothers who butt heads with a special agent looking to tear apart their business."

Earlier this year, John Hillcoat‘s upcoming film Lawless premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Reactions were a bit mixed with some calling it “crowd-pleasing fun” and “artfully crafted” while others referred to it as “lifeless” and “wildly uneven.”

It’s hard not to be excited for a film featuring a cast like this. If you put aside the facts that it stars Shia LaBeouf and that the director’s last film was the dreadful The Road, then you can marvel in the fact that the film also has Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, as well as recent Oscar nominees Gary Oldman and Jessica Chastain.

While the reviews might not be particularly great so far, I’m still anxious to see how it turns out, especially after seeing the awesome trailer.

The film opens in theaters on August 29th, 2012.
