Fox’s announcement that a feature-length take on Charles Schulz’s iconic Peanuts characters was on its way drew groans and grumbling from many fans of the classic comic strip, but the trailers for this new version have somehow managed to tap into the sense of imagination and wonder that made the original so beloved.

That’s certainly the case with the latest preview, which mainly follows bold beagle Snoopy as he takes to the skies under the guise of the Red Baron. The slick CGI animation still harkens back to the distinctive feel of the Peanuts cartoons, but it’s also colorful and creative enough to please modern audiences – a balance that must have been incredibly difficult to strike. If the trailer is any indication, viewers can expect a lot of high-flying adventure from Peanuts, which the synopsis states will find the Red Baron embarking on “his greatest mission,” as well as some more grounded adventures from good ol’ Charlie Brown.

This new take comes at us from the crack team of producer Paul Feig (Bridesmaids), writer Craig Schulz (son of series’ creator Charles) and director Steve Martino (Horton Hears A Who). And if that talented trio doesn’t make you excited, all I can say to you is “Good grief!”

Peanuts opens in 3D on November 6th.

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace – embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest. From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day.
