The World’s Greatest Detective is flanked by his two trusty sidekicks (Michael Cera’s Robin and Rosario Dawson’s Batgirl) in this IMAX poster for The LEGO Batman Movie, and he’s taking them under his wing…of awesomeness.
Indeed, with The Joker staging a hostile takeover of Gotham, Batman will need all the help he can muster to overthrow the Clown Prince of Crime. It’s an adventure crammed full of Easter eggs and moments of fan service, according to LEGO Movie producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and with Arnett’s sardonic vigilante at the core – a character that threatened to steal the show two years ago – The LEGO Batman Movie promises to be one of the first big releases of 2017. Joining Arnett, Cera and Dawson in the voice booth are Ralph Fiennes (Alfred), Mariah Carey (Gotham’s mayor) and, after the role looked to have slipped between his fingers two decades ago, Star Wars alum Billy Dee Williams as the nefarious Two-Face.
The LEGO Batman Movie will swoop into theaters worldwide on February 10th, 2017, at which point Chris McKay’s standalone pic will face, erm, stiff competition from Fifty Shades Darker and the Keanu Reeves-fronted John Wick: Chapter 2. Regardless of how McKay’s solo effort fares, the future still looks incredibly bright for Warner’s bustling LEGO universe, what with the LEGO Ninjago Movie (September 22, 2017) and The LEGO Movie 2 (February 8, 2019) cramming up the pipeline.
