This Important Star Wars: The Force Awakens Character Will Be Back For Episode VIII

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has done a pretty good job at keeping most of its plot a secret. When you think about it, we really know very little about the film and what the story will entail, and equally mysterious are the characters that are set to populate J.J. Abrams' world. So, it's a bit surprising then that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy dropped a pretty major spoiler recently in a chat with the LA Times.

Still with us? Good, because according to Kennedy, Episode VIII will see the return of Gwendoline Christie, who plays the villainous Captain Phasma. Apparently, she’s a pretty important character and one who will make it out of The Force Awakens alive.

It makes sense, too, as Phasma is said to have only a minor role in Abrams’ film, so clearly they’ll just be setting up her arc for future instalments. She seems to be an early fan favorite as well, so I’m sure people will be pleased to hear that the character will have more of an impact down the road.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18th, while Star Wars: Episode VIII is slated for release on May 26, 2017.
