Variety is reporting that James Franco has joined the cast of Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers, a film which details “four college-aged girls who rob a fast food restaurant to afford spring break in Florida, only to get arrested upon their arrival.”

The film will have Franco play “Alien, a rapping drug and arms dealer who bails them out and entices them to kill his arch-rival, a murderer who is appropriately named Arch.”

Harmony Korine has previously collaborated with Franco on Rebel, his short film/installation piece about Rebel Without A Cause.

Emma Roberts is in talks to play one of the four girls named Candy, who is described as “a Southern brunette who feeds off danger.” Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez are also in talks to take on two of the college girl roles.

Personally I love the sound of this, to me it sounds like Sucker Punch meets Pineapple Express, so really what can go wrong?

Hopefully Roberts will be swept up quickly, and as for Hudgens and Gomez, well, I could do without them. Either way, fans of Franco’s more “out there” films, like myself, will be first in line to see this one.

Spring Breakers is eyeing a late 2012 release.
