Aside from taking comic book movies into the cosmic realm, Guardians of the Galaxy is a game changer for the genre since it showed us that even the most unknown and risky properties could become huge box office and critical successes. Thanks to director James Gunn, who packed the film to the brim with visual splendor, inventiveness and some of the most loveable characters ever to grace the screen in a comic book movie, Guardians of the Galaxy changed the game and set a new bar for the genre going forward. We are Groot, indeed.

If there’s one filmmaker you should be following on Twitter, it’s James Gunn. With the director hard at work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, he’s been using social media to tease quite a bit of information. Today, he’s taken to the platform again to answer some burning questions lobbed at him by fans, revealing some interesting tidbits in the process.

For one, he announced that Star-Lord’s father has been cast, as have the main villains. He also told us that Marvel hasn’t given him a single non-budgetary restriction, which is certainly pleasing to hear. Furthermore, he noted that he may direct some other films for the studio, but he definitely won’t take the helm of Captain Marvel or The Inhumans – which we kind of figured.

Overall, there wasn’t anything too shocking or surprising to come out of all this, but it’s always nice to hear Gunn open up about his work. Plus, with seemingly all the main players now cast, I’d imagine it will only be a matter of time before Marvel makes an official announcement and lets us know who will be joining the titular Guardians on their journey this time around.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts into theatres on May 5th, 2017. Check out Gunn’s Tweets below and then take to the comments section and let us know what you’re hoping to see from the sequel.
