Promising a mixture of unseen set stills and behind-the-scenes photos, Gunn got the ball rolling earlier today with a candid shot of Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) drenched in some form of alien goo. First spotted by CBM, lean a little closer and it looks as though the image was taken on the same sound stage where the Guardians lock horns with a tentacled space monster.

Even if you’ve only seen one trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, you’ll no doubt recall the shot of Drax jumping toward a gaping mouth with reckless abandon, blades in hand. Our best guess? This picture from Gunn’s Instagram is likely showcasing the aftermath of that scene, at which point Bautista’s fan-favorite is likely regretting the moment he got up close and personal – a little too up close and personal, perhaps.

Per Instagram:

If Guardians of the Galaxy turned Chris Pratt into one of Hollywood’s most bankable leading men, then James Gunn’s sleeper hit also unearthed a bona fide breakout star in Dave Bautista. The former MMA brawler stole countless scenes in the 2014 space opera, and Gunn is confident he’ll be able to do the exact same all over again once Guardians 2 races into theaters next month. In fact, according to the first reactions from test screenings, Drax continues to be a fan-favorite among Marvelites.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is penciled in for theatrical release on May 5th. Excitement for James Gunn’s sequel is palpable, and you’ll be able to take another peek at Star-Lord and Co. in action via today’s spectacular new TV spot.
