From Sienna Miller to MacKenzie DavisKerry Washington to Janelle Monae, That Hashtag Show is reporting today that the latter singer-songwriter has now emerged as the new frontrunner to land the coveted role of Domino in Deadpool 2.

A relative newcomer to the acting scene, Monae turned heads and raised eyebrows last year following back-to-back performances across NASA drama Hidden Figures and the Oscar-winning Moonlight, so, assuming THS’ report holds true, it’s small wonder why the budding actress has found herself shortlisted for 20th Century Fox’s R-rated sequel. However, we should stress that today’s rumor in no way confirms that Janelle Monae has actually landed the gig – much like the currently vacant role of Cable, Fox is yet to announce anything official at the time of writing.

And that radio silence is really emblematic of Deadpool 2 thus far. Aside from last week’s wonderful promo, one which featured comic book legend Stan Lee adding yet another cameo role to his collection, Fox is currently playing its cards close to the chest. And really, that’s okay. Soon after the abrupt departure of Tim Miller and composer Junkie XL – the latter left as a showcase of solidarity, rather than internal strife – many feared that Deadpool 2 was in for a rocky development. Thankfully, John Wick co-director David Leitch was brought in to steady the ship, and all signs currently point to a production start sometime before the year’s end.

At least, that’s according to co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who very much remain the “beating heart of the operation” following the alleged appointment of screenwriter Drew Goddard.

Circling back to the potential casting of Janelle Monae, though, we will, as always, keep you posted as this story develops. But for now, tell us, would you like to see the Moonlight star take a crack at the superhero genre with Deadpool 2? Let us know below.
