After the most recent poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was unveiled, many quickly developed a theory that Darth Vader was hidden within the image. According to these fans, the layout of the characters and text on the poster formed the outline of Vader’s helmet. It was probably a bit of stretch, but once seen it couldn’t be unseen.
In a tongue in cheek follow-up to that theory, fans have now “spotted” another surprising Star Wars character on The Last Jedi poster. If you flip the image upside down, you apparently get the face of… Jar Jar Binks! Luke Skywalker, who was said to represent the dome of Vader’s helmet, now becomes the Gungan’s long tongue, with the rest of the cast filling out the hated sidekick’s features.
Parody account Bad Mother Leia first Tweeted the “discovery,” with a caption aimed at Ben Solo AKA Kylo Ren. “Hey Ben, Jar Jar Binks is a better Sith Lord than you,” it reads. Again, this is obviously nonsense, but you can check out the poster, along with the Vader ones, in the gallery below.
What’s interesting about all this is that an appearance from Jar Jar in the new trilogy of Star Wars movies is not as unlikely as it might sound. J. J. Abrams previously stated that he was toying with the idea of hiding Mr. Binks’ bones in the deserts of Jakku, in a bid to please Jar Jar’s haters. A recent tie-in novel also revealed that the former Galactic Senator is still alive in this era. After his unwitting part in helping the Emperor rise to power, Jar Jar now lives as a down and out street clown.
Not only that, but Rian Johnson has gone on record before to defend the prequels. So, you never know. Maybe he’s planning to bring Jar Jar back? Maybe the upside down poster was deliberately manufactured that way to tease that Jar Jar’s really Snoke? And maybe pigs porgs can fly?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi lands in cinemas – most likely sans Jar Jar Binks – on December 15th.
