After securing a role in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming adaptation The Man From U.N.C.L.E., actor Jared Harris has snagged another part in an upcoming, high-profile film: the Poltergeist remake. With Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt in the lead roles, and director Gil Kenan (Monster House) locked in, MGM and Fox 2000’s film is starting to come together.
The former Mad Men star is set to play Carrigan Burke, a “television personality who hosts a show called “Haunted House Cleaners.” As for the plot of the film, it will be pretty similar to its predecessor, as it follows a “family who, struggling to make ends meet, relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their young daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.”
Of course, this whole projects begs the age old question of does the original film really need to be remade? The answer is no, for this writer at least, but it’s happening anyways. At least they have a strong cast in place. Still, it’s hard to have much hope for this one being anything other than an unnecessary horror remake, something that Hollywood has been plagued with as of late.
Who knows though? Maybe Poltergeist will surprise us? Maybe it will offer up something new and fresh? Maybe it will be worthwhile? Maybe. Just maybe.
But probably not.
