Jeff Wadlow Will Direct Masters Of The Universe

Sony has been trying to get a live-action He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie made for quite a while now, but hit a bit of a roadblock when Jon M. Chu exited the director's chair to work on G.I. Joe 3 instead. He's since turned his attention to another beloved animated series, Jem and the Holograms, leaving Sony no choice but to look for someone else to bring the movie to life.

UPDATE: THR has confirmed that Wadlow will be re-writing the film, and is not yet signed on to direct.

Sony has been trying to get a live-action He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie made for quite a while now, but they hit a bit of a roadblock when Jon M. Chu exited the director’s chair to work on G.I. Joe 3 instead. He’s since turned his attention to another beloved animated series, Jem and the Holograms, leaving Sony no choice but to look for someone else to fill his shoes.

Back in February, a shortlist of directors emerged, which included The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones helmer Harald Zwart, Chris McKay (who will be directing the LEGO Movie sequel), Another Earth director Make Cahill, and Jeff Wadlow, the man behind Kick-Ass 2. 

According to Schmoes Know, the search is finally over as Sony has chosen Wadlow to take over on Masters of the Universe. I cited Wadlow as one of the most likely candidates for the gig when his name first came up, but his involvement with Fox’s in-development X-Force movie suggested that he’d be too busy. Apparently, that isn’t the case, and though we don’t know what will happen with X-Force, Masters of the Universe is expected to begin right away as it already has a script from The Lone Ranger scribe Terry Rossio.

Unfortunately, no casting news has been made available just yet but we’ll be sure to keep you posted when we hear more.
