At this point, we’re probably just a few weeks away from Lucasfilm and Disney’s big reveal of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Hyped up by The Last Jedi, fans are craving a first look at Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo, not to mention a decent indication of the direction they’re going in with the film.
After all, we’ve still seen next to nothing from the spinoff and story-wise, the only thing we’ve been told is that the pic chronicles Han Solo’s journey between the ages of 16 and 24. Then again, given that Ron Howard reshot a lot more of Solo than was originally intended, it’d be wise to discard any and all story rumors you’ve heard about Lucasfilm’s second Star Wars anthology movie.
So, as we wait to learn more, we’ve received some welcome news from Variety, who are reporting that John Williams will return to that galaxy far, far away to write the theme for the pic. How To Train Your Dragon composer John Powell will still be in charge of the score, but from what we understand, it’ll be Williams who puts together the theme.
Speaking to Variety, here’s what the legendary composer said.
“The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly. His assignment is something I’m very happy about. What I will do is offer this to John, and to (director) Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy… John Powell will complete the score. He will write all the rest of the themes and all of the other material, which I’m going to be very anxious to hear.”
As we mentioned above, this will definitely be welcome news for Star Wars fans, as Williams has been with the franchise since 1977’s A New Hope. That film won him an Oscar and he’s also composed the score for every installment since then, with the only Star Wars movie not including his work being Rogue One. Given that he’s amongst the best in the industry and always knocks it out of the park when it comes to this most beloved of cinematic franchises, we can’t wait to see what he’s got cooked up for Howard’s spinoff.
Speaking of which, said to be influenced by old-school Westerns and heist films, Solo: A Star Wars Story has been pitched as a space-faring caper – fitting, really, given the titular character at its core – and it’ll be with us on May 25th, 2018.
