Frank Sinatra was one of the most beloved celebrities of his time, while Marlon Brando is considered one of the finest actors in the history of cinema. Nevertheless, few people remember they starred together in a musical called Guys and Dolls.

Ever heard of it? It’s your typical gangster film filled with musical numbers. Think of it as Chicago, only less cynical and lacking in character development, but teeming with people dancing around whenever they get a chance. Needless to say, it was kind of a big thing back in 1955. Oh, you haven’t heard of it? Well, we don’t blame you. However, executives at Fox seem to remember the film with great fondness, as they’ve ordered a remake, which is rumored to feature Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Channing Tatum.

On one hand, the film might have Gordon-Levitt dancing and singing, which he’s demonstrated to be quite proficient at. Besides, he possesses some of Sinatra’s slickness and suave demeanor, so he’d be a perfect fit to play the part of Nathan Detroit. On the other hand, there’s Channing Tatum, who’s apparently pretty good at playing a male stripper. While we have no ill-will towards the actor, we beg the execs at Fox to consider someone else for the part of Sky Masterson — we’re skeptical about Tatum’s singing abilities, and he’s no Brando.

Nothing has been confirmed, though. Gordon-Levitt is presumably busy with several projects  (including Sin City: A Dame to Kill For), while Tatum has got his hands full with the sequel to 21 Jump Street. The Guys and Dolls remake currently doesn’t have a director, or even a script, so we’re not positive the project will come to fruition anytime soon.

What do you think? Can you picture Magic Mike‘s Channing Tatum in a role once played by the mighty Academy Award winner Marlon Brando? Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt ready to star in a musical?
