Joss Whedon Tells Us How To Approach The Avengers 2

Even though The Avengers isn’t out yet, director Joss Whedon is already thinking up ideas for the sequel. The film will likely be a hit for Marvel and everyone is already signed up for numerous sequels so all things considered, The Avengers 2 will be given the green light.

SFX recently talked to Whedon who said he would change things for the sequel. Here’s how.

“By being smaller. More personal, more painful… By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself. I want to know what makes them tick, what makes them flawed, what makes them fight – and ultimately, what makes them awesome,” Whedon said. “I go to these movies for those moments when the heroes define themselves, either through action or deliciously overwritten speeches.”

While it’s an admirable idea that Whedon has, it’s not likely that it will happen. Just like The Avengers, its sequel will be an overstuffed action blockbuster that is anything but personal. Perhaps Whedon can sneak a bit of that stuff into the sequel but for the most part, it will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor.

Sorry Joss, but I don’t think you’re going to be able to do your indie version of The Avengers anytime soon. Marvel just won’t let it happen.

The Avengers will be released on May 4th, 2012.
