John Wick: Chapter 2 hasn’t hit theaters just yet – it touches down on Friday – but Lionsgate clearly has very big plans for the franchise. We’ve already heard talk of a prequel and even a TV series, and now it seems like the gears are already in motion for a third outing. Yes, a John Wick: Chapter 3 is all but a sure thing at this stage and it seems that leading man Keanu Reeves is totally up for it. And honestly, why wouldn’t he be?
Despite starring in two of the greatest action films of the 90’s (The Matrix and Speed), the years following weren’t too kind to the actor. John Wick, however, signalled something of a comeback for him and as the sequel now gets ready to release, it looks like it’s a comeback that’s not set to end any time soon. And for audiences, that’s definitely a good thing.
While doing the press rounds for his upcoming effort, Reeves noted that it’s up to the box office haul if the titular assassin gets another outing, but granted people like it, he’s up for more.
“I love the character and the world. Whether or not I get the chance to do another chapter is really up to the audience. If they enjoy what we did — and hopefully they do, fingers-crossed, I really dig it — but if they do enjoy it, then I’ll have the chance to continue the story of the character and the world.”
Thankfully, early reviews have been very positive and all signs point to Lionsgate having another hit on their hands here, meaning Chapter 2 certainly won’t be the end of this fascinating world that the studio is staring to build. There’s definitely a lot more to explore and we have no trouble imagining this being turned into a 4 or 5 film series. We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves just yet though, as the next instalment needs to hit theaters first before excitement for a third outing starts to mount.
Still, it’s quite clear that the future looks pretty bright right about now for Mr. Reeves and his new action franchise, and as big fans of the first entry, we can’t wait to see what else lies ahead for John Wick.
