Jeff Nichols will be teaming up once again with Michael Shannon for a film called Midnight Special. The two have already given us Take Shelter, Shotgun Stories and Mud and now, a fourth collaboration is in the works.

Said to be a “present day sci-fi chase film,” we already know that Joel Edgerton is on board and today, we’re hearing that Kirsten Dunst, fresh off sci-fi flicks like Upside Down and Melancholia, is getting in on the fun.

Though we don’t have specifics on her role just yet, we can tell you a bit more about the story as we have new plot details for the upcoming Warner Bros. film. Apparently, it will follow “a father and his 8-year old who are forced to go on the run when they realize the boy has some kind of special powers.”

Personally, I’m a fan of Nichols and I think that he is an extremely talented filmmaker. This project sounds interesting so far and it will be nice to see what he can do with a bigger budget.

The cast that he’s assembled for Midnight Special is definitely impressive and given what he’s shown us in all of his previous efforts, there’s no reason to doubt that his fourth effort behind the camera will turn out to be something equally, if not more special that what he’s delivered thus far.
